Blind Fencing – Demonstration at Junior Olympics

USA Fencing shared a video on their Facebook page showing a demonstration of blind fencing:

Pretty cool!

I had a look and found a few more clips, including this news story from ABC News in 2010:

On his post “Learning to Fence” at the Carroll Center for the Blind, David Lepofsky details his fencing lesson and how it reinforces ideas of orientation and mobility.

The post and video are worth spending some time on. This is one outlet of fencing I was minorly aware of, but having read up more about it today I’m highly impressed.

The blind fencing bout was on demonstration at USA Fencing’s Junior Olympics tournament being held in Richmond, VA this weekend. Taking a look at local clubs, I found that Salle Green offers fencing programs for the disabled – including blind and wheelchair programs.
