Lee Kiefer (USA) took gold and won the first medal for the United States at the 2010 Cadet and Junior World Championships. In the finals of the 2010 Cadet Women’s Foil competition, Kiefer led the bout at the end of the first period 6-2. Camilla Mancini (ITA) would bring the score to within 2 at 5-7 for Kiefer with 1:39 left in the 2nd period. That would be Mancini’s last point as Kiefer went on an 8-0 run to win 15-5. Kiefer won the silver at the 2009 Cadet World Championships.

Nikolaus Bodoczi (GER)
added to Germany’s medal count by winning gold in the Cadet Men’s Epee event. He bested Korea’s Byeungchan Jung 15-10 in the final bout. The US epeeists were led by Alexander Eldeib’s 10th place finish.

Nikolaus Bodoczi (GER) entered the eliminations with the 31st seed after dropping two 5-4 decisions in the preliminaries. Bodoczi marched through the DE bouts and survived a 15-14 match in the semi-finals against Israel’s Yuval Shalom Frielich.

Alexander Eldeib was the highest US epeeist, placing 10th after a 15-13 loss to Roman Svichkar (UKR) in the round of 16. Eldeib went 5-1 in the preliminary rounds, his only loss a 5-4 to Belgium’s Guillaume Lampertz.

All of Eldeib’s bouts were close as he won 15-14 vs. Britain’s Philip Marsh and 15-13 against SUN Qi (CHN) in his first two elimination matches.

Andrew Meyers and Ayyub Ibrahim both went out in the round of 64. Meyers finish 60th – going 2-3 in the preliminaries and winning his first match 15-9 against Canada’s Ilyas Khamis before losing to Byeungchan JUNG 15-10.

Ibrahim also went 2-3 in the opening round won his first match 15-10 against Cuba’s David Font Gonzalez. Ibrahim fell in the next round 15-9 to Tomasz Kruk (POL).

Cadet Women’s Foil:

Earlier in the bracket Kiefer knocked out teammate Mona Shaito in the round of 8. Shaito finished in 7th place. Shaito went 4-1 in pools and won her 3 elimination matches 15-5, 15-12, and 15-9 before meeting up with Kiefer.

Margaret Lu rounded out the US performance placing 16th. Lu went 3-3 in the preliminary round and started the elimination round strong with a 15-3 drubbing of Charlotte Krause (GER). She then defeated Korea’s Dukha Choi before falling in the 16 to Lianlian Wang (CHN) 15-9.

The cadet events conclude on Sunday with women’s sabre and men’s foil.
