Fencing World Championships: France added on to their medal totals by cruising through the tournament in the Men’s Team Foil event to defeat Germany in the final by a score of 45-32. Through the event, neither France nor Germany faced a significant challenge throughout, as each won their matches by double-digit margins.

Korea defeated regional rival China in the bronze medal match 43-42. The team event has no bearing on Olympic qualificaition as Men’s Foil and Women’s Epee will not have team events in the Beijing Olympic Games.

The U.S. men’s foil team of Jed Dupree (27,
Bethlehem, PA / New York, N.Y.), Andras Horanyi (20, Boulder, CO), Gerek
Meinhardt (17, San Francisco, Calif.) and Jon Tiomkin (28, Hewlett, N.Y.)
lost their first match, in the round of 16, to Spain, 45-33.
