Rebecca Ward was honored at the FIE Congress on December 6th as the 2007-2008 World Cup Champion. Ward earned this distinction by earning the most points in Senior World Cup competition in women’s sabre during the 2007-2008 season which concluded at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
{sidebar id=1} Ward earned the Bronze Medal in individual sabre, capping off a USA medal sweep, and also earned bronze in the Women’s Team Sabre event with teammates Sada Jacobson and Mariel Zagunis.
During the 2007-2008 season Ward won 6 world cup events including 3 of the 4 Grand Prix events. Her worst finish of the season were 2 5th place finishes in Budapest and Tianjin.
Other World Cup winners are: Ana Branza (ROU) in women’s epee, Valentina Vezzali (ITA) in women’s foil, Matteo Tagliariol (ITA) in men’s epee, Andrea Cassara (ITA) in men’s foil, and Luigi Tarantino (ITA) in men’s sabre.
Rebecca Ward is currently attending Duke University on a full fencing scholarship.
