Today Kelley Hurley and Courtney Hurley each did just enough in pools to get to the next stage and won their preliminary elimination bout to compete again in the final table on November 8th.
Kelley Hurley went 3-2 in her pool of 6 fencers while Courtney went 2-3. The other US fencers, Lindsay Campbell and Lauren Willock, went 2-4 in pools of 7 fencers. Neither Willock nor Campbell made the cut to the preliminary DE table.
Willock finished 106th and Campbell 114th.
Courtney Hurley won her first elimination bout against Corinna Lawrence (GBR) 15-13. She will face off against #4 ranked Yana Shemyakina (UKR). Shemyakina has medaled in 3 events this season with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish but also went out early with a 33rd place finish in Montreal.
Kelley Hurley advanced with a victory over Camila Rodrigues (BRA) 15-4. She advances to the top-64 with the 48th seed to face off against Mara Navarria (ITA). Navarria comes into the world championships as the 28th ranked fencer with 5th place finishes in Doha and Luxembourg.
The Women’s Epee event will continue on November 8th in conjunction with Men’s Epee.
Later in the day Men’s Sabre and Men’s Foil will fence their preliminary bouts.
