Men’s Sabre and Men’s Foil Fencers Advance

All 8 fencers from the US Men’s Foil and Sabre squads advanced through to the second phase of World Championships competition. All four sabre fencers – Tim Morehouse, Daryl Homer, James Williams, and Ben Igoe fenced in the preliminary rounds and then Williams and Igoe had an additional elimination match to qualify for the top-64 table on November 6th.

Three of the 4 men’s foil fencers came into the 2010 World Championships ranked in the top-16 of competitors at the tournament, so Gerek Meinhardt, Kurt Getz, and Miles Chamley-Watson got to skip the preliminary rounds. That left Alex Massialas with the task of fencing in prelims. He won 5 out of 6 bouts to advance to the table of 64. Men’s foil will compete on November 7th.
