3 Tied at 16 wins in Men’s Epee

Marat Israelian

After the pool of 23 5 point bouts was completed, 3 fencers stood tied at 16 wins apiece.  Marat Israelian (St. John’s), Jonathan Yergler (Princeton), and Marco Caneveri (Ohio State) tied in the wins column to qualify for the semi-finals.  The fourth spot was won by Peter Cohen (Yale) who won 15 bouts.

Marat Israelian edged ahead of the field by a slim 2 touch margin.  His 16 wins and +29 indicator were enough to give him the top seed heading into the semi-finals.  Yergler earned 2nd seed with a +27 and Caneveri notched a +13 indicator.

The four fencers will next fence 15 touch direct elimination bouts to determine the 2011 NCAA Individual Champion in Men’s Epee.  Israelian will face Cohen and Yergler will face Caneveri.  The elimination bouts are 15 touches and these bouts to not count for the overall team score.
