Canadia to send Women’s Epee team to Athens

TAUBERBISCHOFSHEIM, Germany – Canada will be sending its first Women’s Epee Olympic team to Athens after the Wurth Cup on Friday, 2/20.

The Canadian women’s epee team finished 11th at the Wurth Cup on Friday. Canada lost their first round match to France 45-39, but defeated Greece 35-32.  In additional placement rounds, Canada lost to Ukraine 45-37 defeated Italy 45-39 for 11th place.


The United States finished 10th, but was unable to make up enough points to pass Canada, ending up 12 points out of the zonal qualifying spot. 


Canada will send 3 fencers to compete in Athens along with the other qualifying countries: Germany, Hungary, China, Russia, France, South Korea, South Africa and Greece.  (Greece is ranked 14th in the world but can use their “wild card” entry as the host country.)
