USA Fencing is conducting a member survey about participation in fencing tournaments (local through national). Soren Thompson, an athlete representative on the Board of Directors, sent out this note encouraging participation in the survey. [To jump directly to the survey, use this link.]
Dear Fencing Athletes, Parents, Coaches, and Officials,
Earlier this week USA Fencing disseminated a survey designed by the Tournament Structures Task Force requesting feedback on tournaments. All who are involved in USA Fencing may take the survey as many of you have already have. This is an opportunity to contribute your point of view to an analysis of what aspects of the US tournament structure are good and what aspects might be improved. I hope you choose to take it.
There have been a handful of complaints about the length of the survey (roughly 15 min per section), the format (somewhat cumbersome), and an initial glitch (resolved). What’s most important is that the only objective is to provide more and better services to everyone. We hope to analyze our local, regional and national tournaments to see if they are meeting the priorities of the organization’s strategic plan as best they can and your input is an important part of that process. Those priorities can be found here: http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0041/1950/Strategic_and_Operations_Plans_Updated_3-13-13_Web_Version.pdf
Protecting the financial well being of USA Fencing, creating value for all members by enhancing and optimizing competitive opportunities, and better supporting coaches, athletes, and all types of officials are part of the objective. There are no preconceived notions of exactly how this might be achieved, but certainly all solutions will embrace the diversity and size of our membership base.
