Tiger Mountain Photo’s Timacheff to Photograph Olympic Fencing

Pacific Northwest photographer selected by International Fencing Federation to shoot fencing in Athens this summer.

ISSAQUAH, Wash., March 2, 2004—Serge Timacheff, partner with Tiger Mountain Photo and now FencingPhotos.com, a leading Seattle-area photography studio, will officially photograph all fencing competition at the Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece this August. He was selected by the Lausanne, Switzerland-based International Fencing Federation (FIE) as the sole photographer assigned to the sport for the Olympics.

Timacheff photographed the world fencing championships in Havana, Cuba in October, 2003, and he will shoot the world junior fencing championships next month in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. His work has been published and exhibited worldwide, and currently is featured on the cover of four major U.S. and international fencing magazines.

“I’m honored as a photographer and as an American to be selected as the Olympic fencing photographer,” said Timacheff. “I strive to create images of fencing that inspire interest in the sport and to express its passion, athleticism, and excitement, and I appreciate very much that the U.S. and world fencing communities have recognized my vision. I’m especially grateful to the United States Fencing Association for its support of my work in the last several years, which helped greatly accelerate my photography’s international visibility.”

Timacheff’s work and studio is 100-percent digital, which enables him to quickly photograph and process often thousands of images in a relatively short time. “Digital photography in a high-speed, often low-light sport like fencing requires equipment and technology that is now available and extremely reliable,” he said. Timacheff is also a nationally rated fencer himself, competing actively in local and national competition. He is also co-owner of the Washington Fencing Academy, based in Issaquah.
