Kelsey retires from his competitive career in fencing to take on new role at the US Fencing National Office.
Seth Kelsey was introduced as the new Director of Sports Performance and Development for USA Fencing yesterday [link]. In the new role, which replaces both the roles of High Performance Director and Director of Sports Strategy, Kelsey will lead staff that is responsible for the development of the national teams, grassroots athlete development, and coaching education.
Most recently, Kelsey capped off his competitive career with a World Championship Gold in Men’s Team Epee in 2012 as well as a 4th place individual finish at the 2012 Olympic Games. The men’s team epee event was not contested at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Kelsey expressed excitement for the direction USA Fencing is taking under new CEO/Executive Director Val Belmonte. Belmonte also expressed his enthusiasm for the choice of Kelsey, stating “[Seth is] part of a new generation of leader and I hope that he serves as a role model for any fencers who have aspirations of working in sports administration down the road.”‘
Kelsey brings to the role leadership and management experience from his time in the US Air Force as well as a distinguished athletic career.
