US Olympians Ann Marsh, Carl Borack and Jeff Bukantz were recently elected to high level commisions within the FIE (International Fencing Federation.)  These elections represent the growing influence of the United States within the international fencing community.



Three-time Olympian (’92,’96,’00), Dr. Ann Marsh was recently elected to the Medical Commission of the International Fencing Federation (“FIE”), the governing body of fencing worldwide.   


Dr. Marsh, an “ER” doctor, retains one of the most distinguished competitive records in the history of U.S. women’s foil fencing.  A multiple Pan Am Gold Medal winner, World Championship and World Cup Medalist, and one of the strongest team fencers in U.S. history, her distinguished competitive career was accomplished concurrently while studying and practicing to be a doctor.  Dr. Marsh now lends her competitive and medical expertise to this commission.


Olympian, Carl Borack (Munich ’72) was elected to the “Publicity and Promotion Commission” for the third time and was elected President of his Commission.  Mr. Borack is a film producer (SHILOH, SHILOH SEASON, THE BIG FIX)  has served as Captain of the U.S. Olympic Team in 1988, ’92, ’96, and 2000 as well as numerous Pan Am and World Championship Teams.  He was a two-time Pan Am Gold Medal Winner. 

Athens Olympic Team Captain, Jeff Bukantz, was elected for a second-term to the Rules Commission of the FIE.  Bukantz, a Pan American Team Member in 1987 has served as an international referee and on numerous USFA commissions prior to ascending to his Captain’s position.

Other U.S. members elected to FIE commissions include, Sam Cheris (Legal Commission), Dan DeChaine  (Semi-Commission), Donald Alperstein (Discipline Commission), and George Kolombotovich, (Arbitrage Commission).      Mr. Cheris, and Mr. Kolombotovich were elected as President’s of their commissions.  This is the first time that the U.S.F.A. will have three Commission President’s serving at one time.
