Joerg Fiedler (GER) defeated Alexey Tikhomirov (RUS) 15-11 to claim final victory at the Qatar Men’s Epee Grand Prix event.
US Olympian Seth Kelsey and teammate Cody Mattern were eliminated in the round of 64.
Lindsay Campbell was the lone American in the round of 64 of the women’s epee event and lost 13-12 to Yun Hee Oh (KOR). A number of the US epee fencers were involved in NCAA meets scheduled over the same weekend.
The US men’s epee team bettered their #10 seed by defeating 7th seed Russia 45-34. The US lost to Hungary in the round of 8. France defeated Hungary 45-33 in the final.
The women’s team event was won by Poland, who defeated Russia 45-37. The US lost to Hungary 35-22.
