Nat Goodhartz, US Women’s Foil Team coach and the head coach at the Rochester Fencing Club, will be inducted into the United States Fencing Association’s Hall of Fame June 30.
Goodhartz will become the first woman fencing coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The 61-year-old Goodhartz, who started the women’s fencing team at Ohio State University in 1963 and has coached both the U.S. National men’s and women’s foil teams.
According to Sue Clinton, owner of the Rochester Fencing Club, Goodhartz has been the head coach for over a quarter of a century. During her time Goodhartz has trained several national champions and along with Buckie Leach worked with Iris Zimmermann when she won the World Championships in 1995.
Goodhartz is coaching Iris Zimmermann and Hannah Thompson as they compete in the Women’s Foil Grand Prix in Havana, Cuba.
