Japan, and Japan’s women’s foil team in particular, had a great day …

they defeated Italy early-on (amazing, considering they were up against Granbassi, Trillini, Vezzali!) in a low-scoring bout and then went on to win throughout the rest of the day until they lost to Poland.

That put them in the battle for bronze against Hungary, which they ended up winning narrowly and emotionally.

It was a truly amazing day for them, and much of it is due to their Ukrainian
coach.
