The USFA released the following information via email and a forum post today: US Fencing is pleased to announce the appointment of Kurt Aichele as its new Executive Director. Kurt brings sport, for-profit and not-for-profit experience to the association.
As a coach Kurt served as the head team coach at the National Gymnastics Village, and later at the Illinois Gymnastics Institute, where he coached nationally and internationally competitive athletes, and placed an athlete in the Olympic Trials and Selection Camp.
In addition, he hosted regional, national, and elite gymnastics training camps, and has assisted more than 30 athletes in obtaining full scholarships at NCAA institutions. He served for six years in leadership roles at IGI Sports Core in Westmont, Illinois, where he was responsible for initiatives ranging from strategic planning to developing revenue-generating programs to hosting the world’s largest artistic gymnastics event, involving 3,700 athletes in competitions over three days.
Most recently he has been the Director of Grants and Teen Programs for the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, where he developed collaborative relationships with a variety of organizations to meet the needs of at-risk youth. In that capacity he has had responsibility for over $1,000,000 in grants, in addition to volunteer recruitment, financial development, program direction and related activities. Kurt will join the staff as of December 15th, 2008.
Mr. Aichele will be introduced to USFA members at the Colorado Springs NAC on Saturday, December 13th.
