This weekend Northwestern University will host the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, IL. Princeton’s fencing squad will head to Illinois with a 5-0 record for the men and a 4-1 record for the women. Other squads in competition include Ohio State, Wayne State, Detroit, Cleveland State, Lawrence, Stanford, University of California San Diego, Cal Tech, North Carolina, Northwestern, Temple and Farleigh Dickinson.
The Princeton squad hasn’t competed since early December, so the team is ready to get back in the game. The competition will provide some much-needed preparation for the upcoming Ivy League Championship on February 12.
The 10th and 11th ranked Duke Fencing squads succeeded in defeating top-10 squads at last weekend’s Penn State Duels, and hope the momentum continues to build as they head to MIT for the Eric Solle Invitational. NCAA champs Penn State fell to the Blue Devils 16-11, with the Duke epee men scoring an impressive 9-0 rout. The epee team is a force to be reckoned with, with an 8-2 record and a 73-17 score.
The Duke women are led by 2009 NCAA Saber Champion Becca Ward, with 2010 All-America epee champ Emily D’Agostino. With their successes this year, the Blue Devil women are likely to beat their program record breaking 2010 showing of 17-9.
