Great Britain and Egypt earned medals in Men’s Epee and Women’s Sabre featured an all-Russia final.

Philip Marsh (GBR) started the day slowly.  He went 4-2 in the preliminary rounds and held a +/- of only +4.  It was enough to get him seeded in the top half of the field for the elimination round and took over the #8 seed with a 15-8 victory over Andrea Vallosio (ITA) in the round of 64.

Marsh survived a quarter-final bout against 49th seed Matyas File (HUN), winning 15-14.  He then defeated 5th seed Nikita Glazkov (RUS) and met Egypt’s Ayman Alaa El Din Fayz in the final.  Marsh won the gold medal bout 15-13.

The US fencers earned two top-32 and one top-64 result.  Edward Kelley placed 18th, James Kaull 24th, and Michael Raynis 43rd.

Russians in Finals of Junior Women’s Sabre

In Junior Women’s Sabre, the Russian team served notice they are building a program for the future by placing 3 women in the top-8.  Dina Galiakbarova (RUS) would defeat her teammate Yana Egorian (RUS) 15-9 in the final.  The third Russian, Alexandra Shatalova, took 7th.

Skyla Powers held the top placement for the US team today, making the top-8.  Powers started the day with an uncharacteristic 2-3 campaign in the preliminary round.  She battled back from her low seed and won three elimination bouts to get her to the quarter-finals.  In the round of 8 she met Martina Petraglia (ITA) and lost 15-11.

Francesca Russo made the top-16 and placed 13th and Lian Osier placed 19th after making it to the round of 32.
