Lee Kiefer (USA) garnered some more attention from the world of sports media following her bronze medal at the 2011 Fencing World Championships. USA Today named her their Olympic Athlete of the Week.
In talking about her 15-10 loss in the semi-finals to Valentina Vezzali (ITA), Kiefer pointed out her improvement and belief that she will improve in the future:
“Honestly, I know I shouldn’t be happy with a loss, but I fenced so much better than I did last time, that I’m happy,” Kiefer said. “I won a bronze medal and I know that I’ll keep getting better and soon I’ll be able to beat her.”
