The table is set! US national team members will square off against top competitors from around the world on Saturday, June 19th as the fencers are all set for the final day of competition in Men’s Sabre.
Day one featured the preliminary pools and elimination rounds to make up the table of 64. Action starts at 1pm when Nicolas Limbach (GER) looks to defend his #1 ranking and Tim Morehouse (USA) faces off against Marcin Koniusz (POL).
Day One Heroics
Mihail ETROPOLSKI (USA) earned a spot to day 2 with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the preliminary table. Tim Morehouse reports that down 9-14, Etropolski rallied for 6 touches to win 15-14! Jeff Spear win 5 of 6 of his preliminary pool bouts to advance directly to the round of 64 – bypassing the preliminary elimination rounds.
Several US fencers are set to compete tomorrow as this world cup plus the US National Championships in July determine the final spots on the US National Team for the World Championships in November.
