On the first day of action at the 2011 Junior Olympics three first time winners earned National Championships in the Junior Men’s Sabre, Cadet Women’s Epee, and Cadet Men’s Foil Events.

In the Junior Men’s Sabre event the final was a west coast battle between Kaito Streets (Redwood City, CA) and Geoffrey Loss (Orange Coast, CA). Loss took a 6-0 lead to start the bout, but Streets changed tactics and held Loss to only 3 more points to come away with a 15-9 victory.

The Junior Olympics are USA Fencing’s official National Championships for the Junior (Under 20) and Cadet (Under 17) age categories.

Audrey Abend (New York, NY) took the Cadet Women’s Epee title after defeating Rachel Clark (Boxford, MA) 15-10.

M Team fencer Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, CA) defeated his teammate Jacob Stein in the semi-finals before meeting up with Michael Woo (Wayne, NJ) in the finals.  Bravo won the final bout 15-9 securing the Cadet Men’s Foil Championship.
